2009-2010 SNOW REMOVAL PROGRAM  [Return to News Front Page]
December 15 2009 By: Glacierview

2009-2010 SNOW REMOVAL PROGRAM

FOR THE TOWN OF DARRINGTON

Due to the unprecedented expense incurred in last winter’s snow removal, the Town must adopt a new plan to insure access for emergency services and the movement of residential and commercial traffic.

1)       The Town has a 60’ right-of-way on Town streets.  Snow will be pushed to the outer edges of that right-of-way to make room for the next potential snowfall.  At the first sign of snow, please remove all vehicles from the right-of-way.  If they remain when plowing begins, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office will work with the Town to have them removed at owner expense.

2)      Snow will be plowed to the right on all streets, except Givens, Fullerton and Darrington streets, where it will go to the middle.  Please make arrangements for someone to clear your driveway because snowplows cannot stop at each ingress/egress point.  They must maintain constant forward momentum to lift and push snow.

3)      All accumulated snow must be contained on your own property.  DO NOT push it out into the street.  Please pile it in your own yard.

4)      Per Town ordinance, the sidewalk on your property is your responsibility.  Please remove snow as soon as possible.

SUGGESTIONS:

5)      Be prepared for the possibility of being unable to leave for a short period of time.  Have supplies of water, food, and medicines or make arrangements for someone to deliver them to you.

6)      Consider contracting with someone to clear your driveway, rather than waiting to find help in the midst of the snow storm.  Anyone with equipment for hire to private parties during snow removal can leave their name, contact information and rates at the Town Hall for distribution to interest residents or businesses.

7)      If we plan ahead and work together cooperatively, we can be assured that the streets will be open to emergency services and residential and commercial traffic.

8)      Plowing will be done as shown on the following priority list:

a.       Fire Hall – Ambulance bays

b.      Truck Route – Mountain Loop, Darrington St. and Fullerton Av.

c.       Givens Avenue

d.      Fir Street by the school.

e.      Arterials – Commercial, Madison and Sauk Avenues

f.        Other Residential Streets.

With luck, El Nino may present us with a mild winter, but we have to be prepared.

Call 436-1131 or 436-1185 if you have additional questions.
